Both the Borealis & Mardi Gras launches have been fantastic experiences & ridership results. That’s incredible incredible considering the last whole new Amtrak route launch was Downeaster in 2001. (Yes, Norfolk & Roanoke, but those were more extensions than full route)🚆

A proper rail network like this is a necessity for a climate friendly state
Also, having a rail line down hwy 99 would actually provide Corvallis with a direct transit connection to Eugene and the airport

Oregon’s current transportation governance is at a crossroad. The Rose Quarter project has no clear funding path and OTC is going to have to consider whether to cancel it. Multiple directors are leaving. The legislature barely managed to fund maintenance

This project is emblematic of the issues with OR highway projects. Putting lids on the I-5 would be good, but that aspect was secondary. ODOT’s primary focus was in trying to nearly double the width of the freeway to make room for more lanes

The first new Amtrak Cascades train is set to depart the test track in Pueblo, CO following several months of testing. Next, it heads out for more testing on the east coast before starting service in the PNW in 2026. This is the 1st of 7 new trainsets.

important news on 82nd from metro councilor duncan hwang at the DSA rally earlier today: because of public pressure in favor of 82nd ave BAT lanes, trimet is delaying their vote to approve the “some BAT lanes” option on 82nd that would have cut bus lanes from the highest traffic parts of 82nd

One obvious shortcoming is the “midday schedules”. On weekdays, 3 of the busiest routes drop from 30 min frequency to 40 min frequency from 11:20 - 6 pm
