A reminder: FEMA is no longer going door-to-door to assist disaster victims

[From our Climate Desk partner @wired.com]
FEMA will no longer go door-to-door to assist disaster victims
The move, says one agency worker, will “severely hamper our ability to reach vulnerable people.”

Compost can eliminate pathogens, the viruses, bacteria, and fungi that make people sick. E.Coli and salmonella can be eradicated in a compost pile.

Compost helps the ground absorb more water. Some studies have shown it can hold 20x its weight in water.

Whether its No Mow May or Let It Bloom June or Leave The Leaves, homeowners are finding more ways to adopt a low mow lifestyle instead of keeping up with short, manicured lawns.
Bored with manicured lawns, some homeowners adopt No Mow May all year long

Bottom trawling is horribly destructive to coastal ocean ecosystems, and deep-sea mining will do the same to the open ocean. #OceanFilm 🌊

In today's Berardelli Bonus...The ongoing flood event in the nation's middle is another example of a historic and very "rare" event. 1000 yr rain events are typically restricted to a very isolated area but
@jjrenie.bsky.social map shows just how widespread it was. 1/

Forget for a sec that this is science denial, and pretend he really believes fluoride is a risk for brain development… Why doesn’t he want to remove fluoride where there are actually toxic levels in groundwater but he only wants to stop people from getting the low levels that promote dental health??
RFK Jr. says he plans to tell CDC to stop recommending fluoride in drinking water
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he plans to tell the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention soon to stop recommending fluoridation in communities nationwide.

It's official: Last month was the warmest ever March in Europe and the 2nd warmest in the world

Early Spring feels more and more like Summer, making drought & wildfires more likely later

Time to make climate polluters pay

In today's Berardelli Bonus: The heat is on here in FL with high temps nearing 90. Turns out the first 90 degree day of the spring now occurs 35 days earlier than it used to a century ago. Since 1970 springs have warmed 4.4 degrees F due to climate change. Here's more..

The City of Sun Prairie has become the first municipality in Wisconsin to achieve 100% renewable energy. Their next goal: carbon neutrality by 2050.

Recently I introduced a bill with State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde to commit the entire state to carbon neutrality by 2050.

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies.

There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.

Paying farmers to rewild is by far THE most important thing society could do to reverse nature loss. But here in Ireland, it wouldn't involve 'doing nothing'.

As someone practising rewilding for almost 16 years, I can tell you it requires very hard work: removing invasives, and much more.
It’s what they do in Kenya to help prevent elephants from ruining crops while roaming around. The willingness is amazing because they earn the same money and don’t have to do anything.

If you want to get into gardening but have no experience, no money and no space, consider giving microgreens a try. They're fast, the equipment you need can be recycled from things you already have, they can be grown indoors, they're fresh and tasty and will build your confidence.

I get it! Everyone’s situation is different but generally I think if you can stay and fight, you should. Idk if you’re interested in disasters at all but here are some recommendations related to that of what you can do: bsky.app/profile/saml...
I published my book 4 years ago at the end of the Trump administration ended. I keep thinking about this warning I included.
