Medical texts always have "swegls," with -s. Looks related & may be. But may not. It's a mystery!
In medical texts a ton of herbal recipes call for a "swegles apple." No one knows what that is. "Apple" was a generic term for roundish foods, but also "the apple of the eye." "Swegle" means nothing now.
A genuinely lost word.
