Have you seen this one before? A short history of traffic engineering via @copenhagenizers.bsky.social. Manufactured #CarDependency takes a lot of forms, including how easy or hard we make it to get from A to B using any other ways of getting around.

A direct result of the wrong priorities.

This is a good thread about the literal cost of good journalism. The Dublin Inquirer is a really good publication and the city is lucky to have it.
Okay, the end of the year is in sight, so maybe it’s a good time for us to tell you about our financials, here at Dublin Inquirer HQ at the Digital Hub on Thomas Street in Dublin 8. We ask for transparency from others, so some transparency from us is good too, right? 1/

If two major fiscal problems are 1) potential €20b fine for not meeting carbon targets and 2) over-reliance on multinational corporate tax receipts, then where is the plan to invest €20b in locally owned sustainable/green energy businesses? Solves three problems.
‘The State could face a cost of €20 billion if it fails to achieve reductions in carbon emissions in 2030..In its latest report, the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council said lower estimates assumed Ireland would follow through on measures "that it looks increasingly unlikely to implement"’

Still too often I hear “families will never want to live downtown” or in urban places, ignoring contrary evidence from successful cities. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy — we design downtowns to virtually repel families, and then when families don’t come, or don’t stay, we say “See? We were right!”

The other mode is parked 96% of the time and, statistically, carries only one person 60% of the time.

I'm going to keep repeating it until the Irish media pays attention - the far right aren't democrats and don't care about not getting votes.
They want to be seen and heard, and are delighted that you all made immigration a #GE24 issue on their behalf.
You're feeling smug, but being played.

There are many versions of this image out there. The good ones illustrate why “better cars” will never be more than part of the answer, and actually help “lock in” the #CarDependency that’s the REAL problem. They also do a good job showing why status-quo interests want to focus on the vehicles.
