Adil Ray on whats happening in Gaza: "where is the line for the UK govt?"

Decapitating babies. Murdering journalists & medics. Raping people to death. Bombing hospitals. Starving 2m people. Blowing up universities. Burning people alive. Its been clear throughout that the UK govt has no line.

This is what it comes down to in terms of how we actually function in society: not “what is a woman?”, but “how do you know I’m a woman?” Nobody has ever asked to inspect my gametes or chromosomes. Presentation is literally all anyone is going on.
I mean I’m a fairly femme cis woman but I don’t carry any ID on me that shows my gender. How could I *prove* I am a woman, if I had to, in a way that isn’t just “well she looks like a girl, fair enough”?

This thread on PIP is essential reading for those of us lucky enough never to have had to claim it, yet.
The reality of claiming PIP: a 🧵

1) To claim PIP you have to describe in excruciating detail all the ways you cannot function. This means that you are forced to think in very detailed terms exactly how disabled you are, which often has a devastating effect on the mental health of the applicant 1/?

Labour Party was founded in 1893 and stood on policies that included State provision for the sick, elderly, and unemployed as Hardie and Cunninghame Graham had argued for many years certainly since the creation of the Scotish Labour Party, 1888, to argue Labour is only for workers is obsene.

The Prime Minister shouldn’t be engaging — let alone reviewing arms sales — with someone that has an active ICC arrest warrant for war crimes.

Rachel Reeves has reportedly weakened planned changes to the non-dom tax regime after “intense lobbying from wealthy UK residents”. I look forward to seeing if “intense lobbying” from disabled people will stop Labour cutting benefits.

The violence against Palestinians in the West Bank is a reminder that genocide, ethnic cleansing and apartheid have not ended.

We will never stop opposing the occupation of Palestine because we believe in a simple and moral truth: every human being deserves to live in freedom.

Catching up on SA20 JSKvMICT. I absolutely love watching Jonny Bairstow bat. Disappointed he's no longer in the England test squad despite there being exciting new players.

The only way the right can win state power is to acknowledge the deep suffering that has been created by decades of rising inequality, and blame this suffering on some ‘other’ - migrants, criminals, deviants etc.

That othering is, of course, the prerequisite for fascism.

If you give more contracts to the private sector, staff get pulled away from the NHS to the private sector.

Private capacity grows, NHS capacity shrinks.

It's not temporarily reliving the NHS - it's killing it off.

The private sector receives 20% of NHS funds for helping 10% of patients.

If you want the NHS to succeed, it's actually quite simple.

You invest directly in the NHS, fix NHS pay, and stop money flowing away into private practice.

The ongoing genocide in Gaza is now rarely mentioned by mainstream media outlets. We are witnessing the normalization of the utmost barbarity.

I'm a grandma to 2 baby grandchidren. The idea of either suffering trauma is unthinkable. How is our government so callous &, frankly, evil that they continue to support what Israel is doing in Palestine? How on earth do they sleep at night?

There's a strange idea among moderates that radicals take far left positions for the vibes, or to posture, or just because they're radical position. We take these stances because we want a livable planet, we want people to have good lives, and because in many cases they're winning positions.

Apparently, Keir Starmer has no shame. I am a nobody, but I would be embarrassed if someone bought my glasses, clothes, & tickets to events in order to get something from me.

His 'change' is making people cynical about democracy. It's even worse than we could have imagined. I can't get over the idea that children & pensioners need to be punished to save the economy.
Starmer’s promise of ‘change’ has one huge barrier.
He doesn’t want to change anything.

It’s like the Tories promising honest government.
