I see the 'transsexual vs non-binary' nonsense is doing the rounds again

This serves noone but the enemy

We all have the same needs - access to medical care, legal recognition & human rights, acceptance and protection from hate

All that differs is the degree we need some of those

So knock it off

The Cass Review has not been peer-reviewed.

But it has now been critiqued in depth and from every angle and fully discredited as pseudoscience by ELEVEN peer-reviewed publications.

So when the government uses the Cass Review to justify any policies it is not “following the science”.

The paradox of academic disability studies for me is that it is inflicted by the same ableist expectations and norms re "abilities" and "performance" and we are not critical enough of those implicit biases within the field and Im feeling it rather acutely today

I have had death threats for my work on trans rights. I have been stalked. I have had people try and have me thrown out of my University. I am by no means alone, and lots of trans-inclusive academics have spoken publicly about the violence and harassment they face. But no mention of that here.

Whose Rainbow? explored LGBT+ staff & student experiences of rainbow symbolism & EDI schemes in HE.

In this paper, we think specifically about the extra labour required of LGBT+ people (to survive!) in HE.

In 2020 Charlotte Jones and I argued in @thesociologicalreview.org that restricting trans people's access to toilets excludes trans people from public space and denies 'trans possibility'.
