Kinda seems like whether or not the president has the power to assassinate people with no due process, no input from Congress, no review, no oversight, and with no obligation to provide anyone with any information or evidence other than “trust me” is an important test of our democracy.

In May 2025, Trump ended federal oversight of the Memphis police department to stop "handcuffing local leaders." Four months later, Trump is sending the National Guard into Memphis to "fix" the "troubled city."
I can't keep track. Does Memphis need the feds to oversee law enforcement, or not?

There can’t be any gun restrictions because we have to protect against federal government tyranny, and if kids get shot we just have to live with it. Also the President can send troops to cities because the federal government can do whatever it wants. These two ideas are consistent and reasonable.

If we’re gonna take Mayor Muriel Bowser’s claim that crime is down due to our federal occupation at face value, let’s also calculate all the illegal arrests, detentions, and disappearances. Cause we know those are crimes too.

ICE terrorized my neighborhood of Mt Pleasant today so we reclaimed the plaza — our community living room — with joy and love and messages of resilience. Thank you to everyone who turned out, let’s do it again!! These few photos do not do it justice @freedcproject.bsky.social @popville.bsky.social

Last night DC neighbors showed up at a police checkpoint at 14th & V ST. NW with handwritten signs warning drivers to avoid the block.
After realizing that the community was successfully diverting all traffic, agents packed up the checkpoint and left. #WeKeepUsSafe

People cheer as some federal agents get in their cars and leave.

DON’T LOOK AWAY: Children seen shackled and escorted by federal agents out of a downtown Los Angeles detention center.
Multiple minors. In chains. In public. This is not a “border issue”—this is a fucking human rights crisis.
