I saw people here talking about "steamed panties" and was relieved to see it was something Trump said not the latest Ryan Lizza Substack.

Magistrates who uphold false religion are not merely mistaken but are acting “against God and his eternal truth.”

The moment a ruler invokes God’s name or symbols to justify cruelty or false worship, that ruler has crossed from civil misrule into open opposition to God.

Hence the upgrade.

John Knox would see this as a direct assault on true religion itself and thus deserving of collective judgement.

A government that publicly rejoices in cruelty toward the poor, especially while claiming spiritual growth, has not merely failed in prudence but has violated its divine mandate.

John Calvin would see the use of Christian iconography to sacralize cruelty as a form of blasphemy layered onto injustice.

To claim that one’s “heart grew larger” through acts of hardness toward the vulnerable is a reversal of sanctification itself. Especially with the symbolism of Christmas.

That they want to do and are doing evil things does not surprise me. Other administrations of both parties have done likewise. What is surprising and disturbing is how glib they are about it, not trying to hide it or spin it, but thoroughly reveling in the cruelty.

In addition to the inherent issues with polling - response bias, lying, sampling issues - people are also notoriously bad at telling you what they want!

People said wanted trump to break things and shake things up. That’s what is happening now - and they hate it. Because it’s bad!

data is important, measurement of public opinion is important, but politics also isn't a machine. there are a vast number of qualitative factors at work. and people themselves are unpredictable.

“You could have won by more and you didn’t” sucks and “you should have won by less because that would mean you’re more progressive” sucks because individual variation swamps all of this even if any of it were valid, which it’s not.

JAMES HORNER CAMEO ALERT!

He's the officer marching down the corrider as they make the dash for the nebula.

Meyer was loving his soundtrack work so much he was like:

DUDE GO TO COSTUME AND PUT ON A UNIFORM I WILL GET YOU IN THIS MOVIE

Khan and Kirk never meet in the film. Shatner was insistent they should meet and fist fight at least once, with Kirk winning again as in Space Seed.

Meyer refused. He told Shatner that Khan was a genetic superman. It was ridiculous Kirk beat him in Seed and would be even more ridiculous here.
Yeah. Shatner was doing in a playgroundy singsong and Meyer just ground the life out of Shatner and got the take he (rightly!) wanted.

I've always wondered if Meyer knew that a lot of Trek fandom had been kept alive by (basically) slashfic of Kirk/Spock.

Because jesus christ are Kirk and Spock horny for each other in Wrath.

maybe it's *not* a crime if they do it out in the open singing "We're committing crimes all day ♫"
the number of DOJ staff and FBI agents who are - by any reasonable stretch of the imagination - obeying orders to cover up crimes is staggering
