Having slept on it, let me express it this way. The single candidate, mates with the SDs, has a famous dad "interview" process is the exact mechanism that typically keeps black managers out. This doesn't represent any of the structural reform kick it out have previously advocated for.

"on merit" is sadly pretty questionable. I don't think another PL team appoints him.
"A moving moment". How Liam Rosenior's appointment at Chelsea breaks barriers for Black and English coaches, featuring Paul Canoville, Paul Elliott and Kick It Out.

Elliott signs off: "But let's not forget - he's there on merit. He's there on talent."

Maresca was a chancer and coward right from the beginning to the very end. He willingly fronted for the worst sporting directors in the game, justified every terrible decision they made to the media, and then ducked his final post-match interview when the writing was on the wall. Good riddance.

The sporting directors, and everybody they've recruited to work at the club in the last three years, should be shown the door immediately after Maresca. Every single one of them. Utter garbage from front to back.

It is expected Enzo Maresca will leave Chelsea today. (Matt Law)

Have to admire Enzo Maresca’s certainty that he’ll get the vacancy at Manchester City in a world where Vincent Kompany has proven himself to be an at least cromulent coach.

EnzoM was supposed to be that, plucked from the championship, but clearly had an inflated self worth having been touched by Pep's bald.

Ironically Lampard is a manager for which Chelsea would be his peak, but his idea of Chelsea is totally different to clearlake.

Thinking about this, I think I get it. The project is rubbish by newbies who won't get another job.

Winstanley was passed over when ashworth left Brighton. Stewart similar with Mitchell. Shields had one go and built one of the worst PL sides at Soton.
An awful lot to unpack here.

Am I crazy for thinking this is an utterly insane quote? Like seriously, I don't need to explain why this is bonkers, do I?

Maresca: "We arrived so many times, outside with the wingers. I think tonight we were 1v1 so many times between first half and second half. Inside the box, it's a general situation where in the last third we can do better."

Teams allow it to happen and trust their FB, it's not your tactics working.
The wingers get the ball in good areas to go 1 v 1, and then you realise the opposition are allowing it to happen (this stat is from the 24/25 season, but still). So much for data-led recruitment.

If I had to predict the Maresca situation. This rumbles on to the summer at which point he's actively trying to get another job. He's overplayed his hand so really going to Italy is more realistic than City. The club gets a small fee and brag about it being a plan to develop coaches like players
