Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)

Rosen (2030)

Members fly and the donors and people close to them fly a LOT. My first thought when I’d heard they were caving
not enough chatter about how frequently members fly and how attacking airport capacity directly affects them in a way that cutting SNAP does not

Appears that Colorado's off-year turnout, after a strong start early on, slackened in the runup to Election Day. On pace now for turnout to dip relative to 2023 (though still an increase over 2021).

I don’t think there’s a single fact about the functioning of our political system that is more relevant while being less popularly understood than the fact that the day-to-day job of a congressperson involves spending like 30 hours a week calling rich people to ask for $5,000 checks.
I really think sustained contact with donors is a big driver of shitty party leadership, it's cooking their brains just as much as being on twitter would.

Plenty of vote outstanding, but the most eye-catching early CO election results may be in Aurora, where two D-affiliated candidates lead their R-affiliated opponents, including Danielle "Complete Gang Takeover" Jurinsky.

Is it too much to ask for a contemporary dramatization of nuclear apocalypse that neither is anchored by a calamitously bad Idris Elba performance nor rests a somewhat crucial piece of internal plot logic on a citation of a Joe Rogan podcast appearance

I’m coining the phrase “the centrist two-step.” Step 1 is declaring that the left needs to focus on kitchen table issues instead of social issues to win back voters and step 2 is insisting that all left-wing approaches to kitchen table issues are impossible to deliver on.
Abigail Spanberger takes a swipe at Mamdani, saying "maybe he should be a Democrat" and that his campaign promises are dishonest.

Adopting this warmed-over BTI perspective is kind of goofy at any time, but doing it today, in the year of our lord 2025 -- while clean energy represents the *only* way to accelerate economic growth without breaking the bank -- is so sad. Not just hackery but moldy, past-its-expiration-date hackery.
I actually think the *core* of Democrats’ unwise leftward move was on climate because it creates direct tensions with a classic kitchen table pitch.
All the other stuff (crime, immigration, guns, gender) matters too but the post-2012 pivot off of “all of the above” energy is the most important.

“Dems moved too far left” means BLM and trans equality—and for some, taking COVID seriously—and many Dem politicians really do support those things.
There’s tons of noise and euphemism, but that’s the core argument.
And it is a misguided one, since Dems won the election after that move, in 2020.

This is really worth listening to in full. Very rude of Paul and Bree to ask straightforward questions about specific and concrete actions Bennet would take as governor.
