A cracking read on We3 from @chasemagnett.bsky.social - although I wish I had the motivation to write a similar piece from the perspective of a cat owner. Sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly different take on the world.

Next week is spirit week at our school and Monday’s theme is “Dress as Your Favorite Artist.” May need to buy some suspenders this weekend.

If you're super mad about what's happening in our country now but aren't willing to put up flyers/stickers, call reps, or protest, then I hope you're doing something else meaningful. (And worth asking yourself why you're unwilling, b/c what's happening is going to get a LOT more uncomfortable fast.)

Must read: Mahmoud Khalil speaks out for the first time since his arrest by the Trump administration in an exclusive letter, dictated over the phone to his family, from ICE detention in Louisiana.

When Chuck Schumer was required to write a paper on a non-American hero in the 20th century during his senior year, he selected Vidkun Quisling.

Chuck Schumer’s interview in the Times today is essentially an open confession that Senate Dems are willing collaborators under fascism. He makes it plain that they will not fight back and, in fact, support much of what Trump is doing with ICE and attacks on universities.

In 2021, McConnell successfully filibustered a Democratic CR ahead of a government shutdown and forced them to accept a clean one instead. What happened this week - a total cave on a totally partisan long-term funding bill - hasn’t happened in the 20 years I’ve covered Congress.

If there’s a Nazi at the table and you see 10 others seated and speaking with them, then there are 11 Nazis at the table.

These 10 Senators joined the table today.

Schumer
Fetterman
Cortez Masto
Durbin
King
Shaheen

The Vichy comparisons actually suck. 73,000 French soldiers were killed in the Battle of France before they capitulated.

The USA isn't Vichy in this story, you're not the victim of foreign aggression, you're the Nazis.

just called and left voicemails for both of my senators telling them the future of the party depends on a vote of “no confidence” on fifth-columnist Schumer. both calls together took all of five minutes.

Any Senate Democrat who votes for cloture should have to spend time at schools across D.C. answering questions about why they care so little about the lives of D.C. residents.

Sesame Street really tells the story of America:

- Created for PBS to educate young (especially Black!) children
- Becomes a beloved institution cherished by the entire country
- Gets privatized and kicked to premium cable due to budget cuts
- Unionization leads to mass layoffs

What a country!

Stayed up late finishing Hyperion (brilliant) last night and was able to dive into Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel today.

Wonderful use of what’s likely this season’s final snow day.

Watched Emilia Perez last night and most of that movie gets a big “oof da” from me, but “El Mal” fucking slaps.

Just finished “The Scholar’s Tale” in Hyperion and will now spend the rest of this weekend crying while I hold my wife and dog.

Nothing in the past year has made me feel more cynical about the future of humankind than interacting with individuals readily adopting A.I. into their own lives.

So many of us view ourselves as cogs and delight in simply not knowing or caring about how our world functions.
