Honestly, it's feeling like the tiktok ban is pretty win win. The rest of the world gets to stay on tiktok but without the Americans, and the Americans get to do exposure therapy with Chinese people on Xiaohongshu so they can learn how to be normal.

Been reading Wolf Hall and it's fascinating the way that it's so similar to Hamilton as another rags-to-ritches story about a lawyer becoming central to a major historical event, but ends up being actually good because it has stuff to say about the time period beyond hagiography.

It's been unseasonably cold this week, so I made a big pot of stroganoff to eat over the next couple of days, but now it's warming up again and I'm now staring down the barrel of eating cream and meat and spices for two days straight as the temperature gets back up to the 30s. I have played myself.

Getting back on my bullshit by spending 2 1/2 hours obsessively reading the hospitality award and sending a 500 word email to my boss about why I need to be paid more while also subtly highlighting various things she might be legally liable for at 1am.

I saw Under the Silver Lake a while ago and I keep thinking about it. People have compared it to Inherent Vice (probably because of the PTA adaptation), but I feel like it hews closer to The Crying of Lot 49. Similarly meandering structure, weird conspiracy stuff, episodic sexual adventures, etc.

Just saw Past Lives and I can tell I'm going to be thinking about it for a long long time. There are so many perfect little touches in the production design or the performances, or the writing that are just sticking with me.
