People born on U.S. military bases overseas being stripped of their citizenship and deported...

Jermaine Thomas was born on a U.S. base in Germany where his dad was deployed in 1986. Last week he was deported to Jamaica

Now Thomas has no citizenship, according to court documents

This is a good read. “A free education is incompatible with fascism.” Exactly.

Trump’s War on the ‘Deep State’ Will Hurt His Own Agenda
Trump’s war on the “deep state” has meant eroding the federal bureaucracy. The result will be a shallow state that can’t even implement his own agenda.

Very accurate.
Broken Record: You *cannot sustain* a functioning constitutional order if the general population is blasé about open violation of the Constitution. If voters don't care, your job is to make them care. This is not optional. If you don't, you lose even if you pick up seats in the next election.

Just ordered this. Looking forward to reading it. Learned a lot from the Grapevine and Southlake podcasts.
One year after releasing a book about the far-right push to remake education: Oklahoma kids are being taught 2020 election denialism. Millions of Texas kids can now use public money to attend private Christian schools. And the Trump admin has virtually halted enforcement of federal civil rights laws

Good 🧵.
Obligatory preliminary note: I have not spoken about this to any of my relatives. That said: the framing of this article is vile. But the substance is interesting. If I were a university President who thought I might end up in a fight with the federal government, I would of course try to avoid it.
As the Times has elsewhere reported, Trump's higher education taskforce is full of ideologues who want to "take down" a prominent university, and it is hard to see a relationship between the administration's defunding of NSF and other grants and antisemitism....

People need to check this Canary Mission site. It’s fucking awful. If it’s being used to find people to deport, it needs to be taken down.
I think the Ozturk case suggests that 1) yes, Canary is being used to ID students for deportation 2) someone in State is OVERRIDING evidentiary analyses (like the one WaPo reports that said there was no evidence against Ozturk) to sustain Canary "conclusions."
It looks very much like the Department of Homeland Security memo seeking to revoke Ozturk's visa copied language directly from the Canary Mission website. Is DHS just following the "deport list" from an anonymous website? donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-attack...

This feels a lot like that early period of Covid when some people were shouting about how bad it was going to be while guys like Trump and Musk were predicting it would be over by April.
Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.
