My sister in law runs a cafe in Toowoomba to employ & help at risk-youth and they’ve very sadly had one of the beautiful kids involved die. If you have any spare dollars to help her family pay for her funeral it would be extremely appreciated

NADOC started as a day of Aboriginal protest 50 years ago. NAIDOC is now a week for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders to celebrate Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander excellence, survival & joy. But there's still room for protest & resistance - which honours those who marched on first NADOC day

"The danger is not that AI will fail us, but that people will accept the mediocrity of its outputs as the norm."

Is AI sparking a cognitive revolution that will lead to mediocrity and conformity?
During the Industrial Revolution, craftsmanship retreated to the margins. As AI becomes widely adopted, will the same happen to original thinking?

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

I miss when you could just post lyrics onto social media and it was a legible genre of post...It seemed corny in retrospect but I feel like it offered the world something we have now lost.

I’ve got a piece up at Crikey today on the NDIS. There’s been a concerted campaign to attack the NDIS in recent months, and it’s been massively dishonest www.crikey.com.au/2025/01/24/b...
No, the NDIS is not ‘strangling’ the economy
Accusations against the NDIS are fuelled by a worldview that sees supporting the most vulnerable in our community as an unaffordable cost, while tactically ignoring the benefits.

this is catastrophic
Crazy that the NSW government can fuck up this badly in the delivery of a critical public health service and the response is... nothing?

Is the Commonwealth going to do anything, like threaten to halt the $34 million a month it pays NSW for admitted mental health services in public hospitals?
