People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

The outrageous sanctioning of EU lawmakers and citizens in order to pressure democratically-elected European governments to change their laws shows just how intent the US government is on controlling Europeans' lives.

We must go into 2026 with eyes open.
The US can destroy a European's life with the swipe of a pen
This week's US sanctions against European lawmakers and privacy activists is a major escalation. And it shows the dangers of Europe relying on American economic infrastructure.

The two parties are not remotely the same, & yet they are covered in our most prominent outlets in exactly opposite proportions to the actual degree of scandal, lawbreaking, authoritarianism, etc. It has been uneven for decades, but it’s reached new levels of farce & obscenity since Trump.

Every damn day. It’s exhausting.
NYT provides no evidence here, probably because the claim is flatly untrue. See eg recent Pew data, or many posts on the subject from @gelliottmorris.com this year

We condemn the scandalous US visa ban on former EU Commisioner Breton and digital activists. Protecting democracy isn’t censorship. ✋🏼

Disinformation isn’t free speech. Europe won’t take lessons from those undermining democracy and free speech.

Here in Europe we set our own laws. 🇪🇺✊🏼

Dude did a minute long riff on his wife's underwear, but when your job as a member of the mainstream media is sane washing the incoherent ramblings of a guy who keeps the lights on in your building, the public must be told he's just doing normal President stuff🙃

Again, I will re-up my deeply unpopular view that the core problem underlying was the failed policy response to the Global Financial Crisis, & yes, that happened not only in 🇬🇧 & 🇪🇺, but also here in 🇺🇸. We've never fully recovered.

This is a good time to remind people that, in absolute terms, there are far more Trump supporters in California and New York than in Georgia or Tennessee.

They are around you, you just don’t want to hear them - in part because they don’t fit your stereotypes.

The problem isn't that we can't talk to each other

The marketplace has heard the ideas

Large supermajorities reject them

Yet our anti-democratic political institutions allow the 20-25% that like those ideas to capture & control all the institutions

The problem is the anti-democratic institutions
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

What's striking about Trump's lies, and those of his apologists, is that they're not even plausible. They don't try to be plausible. As others have noted, that's kind of the point. True authoritarian control and power is telling a blatant and obvious lie, and showing you can get away with it.
Q: Can you explain what's going on with the bandages on Trump's hand?

LEAVITT: We've given you an explanation. The president is literally constantly shaking hands.
