"Most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich than face the reality of being poor." -- 1776 - "Cool, Considerate Men"

There's a reason Richard Nixon went to Jack Warner to get him to cut this song out of the movie (and succeeded) behind the director's back.

For people who don’t follow Talamasca: the most recent video from the cast has some small but mighty lore implications. It’s on Instagram and probably other places.

National park to remove photo of enslaved man’s scars
The Trump administration is ordering the removal of information on slavery at multiple national parks in an effort to scrub them of “corrosive ideology.”

Lakers and Warriors both out, but the Celtics just got eliminated, so everything balances out in my eyes! Thank you Knicks, I couldn't deal if the Celtics won again. I now hope either the Knicks or the Pacers win it all, I don't mind if the chip stays in the East for another year.

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

A lot of people like to dismiss racism as insubstantial to material realities but we’re watching a nation burn trillions of dollars in wealth to entrench a racial system of domination.

James Surowiecki figured it out. They just went through Wikipedia and took each country's trade deficit/exports.

I tried it on a few (including NZ) and it matches.

This is correct.
The white men fantasizing about the return of American manufacturing don’t actually think they or their kids will be working in the factories. This is their American individual idealism at work: they believe there will always be someone else working hard for their benefit

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory.

Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

I knew this tariff BS would do this. I am SO glad I took the initiative to buy everything I could/wanted before now and got my car repaired to the nines before all of this hit. And I wasn't going to buy a Switch 2 at launch anyway. Time to just hunker down now. 😖

So yeah, I wasn't planning to get a Switch 2 this year anyway, since I only buy a new Nintendo console when a new mainline Zelda comes out. (Which, given Zelda's release history, will be sometime around 2028 this time, I predict). And at that price ($450)? I'm glad I have that rule, 'cause damn! 🫣
