I've found it hard to land the significance of wildfires to people outside Canada (or other places that experience them).

This stat is shocking but hopefully useful.

Study published this week in the journal Nature links Canadian wildfire smoke to tens of thousands of deaths across North America, Europe and to a lesser extent, Asia, with more deaths likely.
