When I talk to students about public speaking or teaching, I always bring this up: Just tell people when you don't know something! It's remarkably powerful b/c it signals to your audience that you know the boundaries of your expertise and they can trust what you DO talk about.
completely outside of politics, this is so charming

Got food poisoning at the Giller 2022 when I chaired the jury and threw up a dozen times in the bathroom of the Four Seasons. I suppose in retrospect there are a few literary terms that could be applicable here.
what's the most exotic place you've ever puked? mine's not exactly exotic but i did once have a hangover at the nyc facebook office and barfed in their very nice bathroom
Got food poisoning from Fogo De Chao. Puked out the side of a moving cab along beautiful Copacabana Beach. The most exotic place I'll probably ever puke!

in 'Jeeves and the Tranny', Aunt Belinda tells Bertie he must find a way to end his cousin Tiddly Gosser-Sprocket's engagement to a transsexual woman. Bertie protests she is 'an all-round corking filly' but Jeeves advises a decade-long media onslaught about 'legitimate questions about single-sex sp

PERSONA is great. It pulls at the scabbing scar-tissue of transsexual flesh in these existentially terrifying times. It is a modern answer to the desperation, and dark satirical interrogations of Roland Topor's "The Tenant". At times it invokes the same unease found in PERFECT BLUE. Pre-order it.

It used to be used primarily by Quebec to preserve the hegemony of French there (which is its own set of issues), but I worried conservative Premiers would start button-mashing the NWC for anti-trans laws. That reality has been creeping across the Prairies for sometime now.

The NWC is one of those gentleman's-agreement affairs where there's theoretically no upper limit on abusing it, but "norms" were meant to ensure its was as rare as possible.

The Notwithstanding Clause is something I've long called the ticking timebomb in the Canadian constitution.

And this is why. I've warned trans doomers in the US who advocate fleeing to countries like Canada that the fight is global.

This is the shape of things in Canada right now.
