There’s a terrible human cost to using these platforms, and it’s paid most dearly by the invisible tech workers who quite literally keep them running.

Have just realized that the silly “Bezos wants to buy Vogue as a lavish wedding gift for his bride” story that’s been circulating is inaccurate - Bezos wants to buy Condé Nast which owns The New Yorker,Teen Vogue, Wired & Arts Technica because he is an oligarch who wants to crush all dissent.

It's not a real donkey, it's an AI-generated video. Can we just stop with this already? It's ridiculous and a dishonest way to get likes.

I don't 'refuse to use' AI, I just don't use AI; in the same way that I don't shoplift, or plagiarise other people's books - it requires no effort of will, it's just not something I would think of doing
Bizarrely framed article about the people (all women) who ‘refuse to use AI’. And a #philosophy professor who says “The moment to opt out of #AI has already passed”. Oh well. That’s that then. 🤷‍♂️ #AIEthics www.bbc.com/news/article...
The people refusing to use AI
Worried about the environment and the loss of skills, some people are resisting the rise of AI.

Do check ants aren't crawling up and down your plants. If there are any, they'll be protecting their herds of aphids (aphids excrete a sugary solution ants like to drink) and fighting off the ladybirds.

I took a ladybug/bird by hand over to a bunch of aphids once only to see an ant fight it off 😞

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.

Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

I’m sorry, but this woman is absolutely poisonous and cruel and I cannot *stand* her or her attacks on trans people. You should feel about her IP like you do about Tesla. This is appalling.

So, I don’t care about this particular man, but I do want to point out that immigration officials pulled this woman aside after a trip to Puerto Rico, which is…not a foreign destination, which means they’re pulling and detaining legal immigrants in the regular degular airport.

Be safe.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

So many articles burying the lede.

The expected EO’s doing more than naming a national language.

It rescinds 25-year-old EO 13166 which requires systems for language access.

This is an attack on accessibility that will affect d/Deaf, HOH, & disabled people too. 🧵
