The Secretary of Education just appointed five new members to the powerful National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI)--the organization that approves accreditors. Expect NACIQI to play a major role over the next several years.

From @johnsides.bsky.social at @goodauth.bsky.social: Some mainstream parties have tried becoming more anti-immigrant to win back voters from radical right parties. It doesn't work. Actually it backfires.
Embracing populism doesn’t hurt right-wing parties. It may help them.
New research from Western Europe shows that accommodating extremism doesn’t work.

The NY Times says this administration considers diversity "taboo."

A healthy democracy includes a robust appreciation f/ diversity & widespread civic participation.

Research from the last 10+ years shows Christian nationalism threatens democracy in at least 3 ways:

Its pretty stark to watch mass media focus the gerrymandering conflict on California -- despite it being in reaction to Texas.

California is seeking voter approval, while Texas is coercing Democrats to provide a quorum.

But California is the problem here.

Everyone in DC knows that if you want to hide something, announce it on a Friday in August. Better yet, make it nearly impossible to track down.

That's exactly what SCOTUS did last week. But the news is too staggering to hide for long: SCOTUS has decided it's time to destroy the Voting Rights Act.
The Supreme Court prepares to end voting rights as we know it

Sure seems like the President of the United States is going to pardon a convicted sex trafficker and serial abuser who ran a pedophilia ring with his best friend in the whole wide world.
“The reason for the move is listed as a “lesser security transfer” (code 308), which is completely inappropriate for inmates who are in the early stages of serving their sentences. ‘This is such obvious corruption. I have never seen this before.’”

Here's the thing about claims that "history will remember."

History doesn't remember. *People* remember.

Reconstruction ended ~150 years ago. For most of that time, Americans have misunderstood, misremembered, & willfully misrepresented it - despite a vast historical record to the contrary.
After the Civil War, Klan terrorism and violence sparked the largest congressional investigation to that point in US history.

But within a few decades, historians used its evidence to exonerate the Klan and indict the whole project of Reconstruction. 🗃️
