I'm headed to Paris on July 25th, and Amsterdam on Aug 1. If any bike advocate friends here happen to be nearby either of those weekends, I'd love to meet up for drinks.

When Hidalgo steps down next year, she'll have left an inspiring legacy: 350 km of protected bike lanes, 130,000 bike parking spaces, 300 school streets, 145,000 trees, 45 km of parks, and 140,000 fewer car parking spaces. Largely thanks to a light, quick, cheap experiment started 20 years earlier.🔚

HOT RESEARCH NEWS!

Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor...

Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

I wrote about the great Don Shoup, who was the kind of person you'd go to for an answer to a single question about parking and come away with 20 more story ideas about how to fix everything in LA
Feed the meter
The fact that LA could even aspire to host a "car-free" games owes a great debt to Donald Shoup repeating, for decades, that just because you're going somewhere in this city, you're not automatically ...

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

Super excited about this, along with a short trail spur to connect the neighborhood to Wiley Post Park! The park is such an amazing asset. Much needed neighborhood connectivity!

True freedom of youthful mobility is not having to say "Mom/Dad, can you give me a ride?", it's given to you by a city that prioritizes people over cars.
Wide, bidirectional cycleways allow young friends to cycle side by side home from school three abreast, chatting and sharing gum. Safer streets for everyone.

Designing cities around people rather than cars means being able to more independently age in place, staying part of your community, no matter your mobility.

Advocate and vote for it now before you're stuck in a secluded retirement home, lonely, on the edge of a city surrounded by highways.

Motor vehicle engineers and regulators: if a car crashes and airbags deploy, are there capabilities to cut the engine or fuel off?
Maybe not lock up the brakes, but anything to prevent the car from accelerating after a crash?

New study finds that parking lots "negatively - and substantially - impact walkability; their objective walkability score is half that of other road segments."

Watch this extra long firetruck easily make the turn onto narrowed Bryant at Lake St for an emergency yesterday.
