We are at the terrifying point where Doug Wilson is being interviewed by Ross Douthat, and there is no earnest caveat of his extremism.

I interviewed Wilson in 2020. Compare Douthat's interview and this, and you'll see only one is not normalizing his bigotry:

When big media wonders why people fucking hate them - it's decisions like this people can point to. The west is so disposable and unimportant to decision makers, they think they shuffle some of the most disgraced members of the profession there and no one will notice.
Vanity Fair takes a long look across the west and shrugs: “I don’t know, there’s no one else out here, better call up Nuzzi.“

Tried a farmer's market honeycrisp for the first time today and was shocked to discover that it was good actually. Dunno what they're doing to the ones in grocery stores but it's a travesty.

I live in a small blue city in a big red region of a blue state in a red country. Punishing people based on geography isn't just cruel, it's stupid. There's no "secession" strategy that's ever going to work out.

This is probably a good thing, but it feels like a first step towards balkanization. I know some people are excited about it but frankly I find it terrifying

And sorry, but you all need to do the internal work of dealing with that, rather than lashing out and threatening the most vulnerable and marginalised in our communities!

We will never return to the “Before Times” and frankly? We shouldn’t want to. We should want to be better.

Can't help but notice that the same people who were most insistent we sacrifice Palestinian children for the greater good are now insisting we sacrifice rural children for the greater good. Sure, it's realpolitik, whatever, but how low does this go? How long before it's my kids they're offering up?

There are plenty of *specific, identifiable people* who have committed crimes and should be punished. I reject the notion of enemy populations a priori; the other path leads to people saying shit like “we are justified in starving Gazan children bc their parents voted for Hamas”

Going off on that, it's important to acknowledge that the core reason why contemporary agriculture is so labour / capital / environmentally intensive is that it's specifically build around long-distance, mass exports.

[1/ 10000 or so]
Non-ironically though, there are some approach to culture that have near zero labour intensity - the "comestible foret" in particular, and in a lesser extent some variants of aquaculture and permaculture.
