Compare and contrast the Government language.

£3,750 EV grant on a £35k car: ‘helping families’.

Cycle to Work: ‘subsidising leisure’.

And yet cycling delivers TEN TIMES the impact of electric cars for reaching net zero. It’s almost like narrative, not data, is driving policy.

“We are keen to work with government to ensure that changes would not unintentionally damage the scheme and the significant benefits it delivers for public health, the environment, and the UK’s cycling retail sector,” the Cycle to Work Alliance said
Labour’s Cycle to Work limit “risks undoing progress to encourage cycling, decrease traffic, and reduce carbon emissions”, say scheme providers
Rachel Reeves’ reported plans have also been criticised by Cycling UK, who point out that while capping the scheme “may sound like a sensible way for ministers to save money, in reality, it will cost ...

If you are responsible for managing/influencing speed limits set in your urban/village spaces then keeping 30mph as a norm creates harm that way exceeds any benefits. Implementing 20mph as a default or norm consistently lowers casualties by 20-30%.
