"It never weighed more than a spoonful of sugar. Five or six grams of life, soft-furred and sharp-nosed, darting among the roots and leaf litter. At night, its voice once filled the forest of Christmas Island. Now the forest is silent. Australia’s only shrew, Crocidura trichura, is declared extinct"

This whole thread filled me with reflected joy, but this bit is an incredibly pro-social cure for imposter syndrome.
The further I get into my career the more I reflect that however hard I may be on myself for what I can't do, however distorted the "produce more" & "be more expert" pressures are in technical fields, that there are so many people who do not have access to the understanding that I have access to.

Huge respect to Kate Nash for this song and @krsofficial.bsky.social for releasing it. No metaphor, no pretense, just straight up calling out vile transphobes for who and what they are.

Some non-native (but heirloom) bulbs popping off for early spring.

When we moved to our 1950s house, I started buying bulbs from that era. Hyacinths and daffodils particularly like our garden.
