I was going to post a rant about the perils of quantum computing hype, following the claim by #HSBC & #IBM that they have improved bond market predictions using a QC, but instead I will just link to Scott Aaronson's blog which says it all scottaaronson.blog?p=9170 🧪⚛️ cc @bullshitquantum.bsky.social
HSBC unleashes yet another “qombie”: a zombie claim of quantum advantage that isn’t
Today, I got email after email asking me to comment on a new paper from HSBC—yes, the bank—together with IBM. The paper claims to use a quantum computer to get a 34% advantage in predic…

A CPU can add 32bit numbers in a nanosecond.
In my quantum factoring estimate, I also used 32bit adders. They're a bit slower. Each superposed add costs TWO MILLION nanoseconds.
Quantum factoring isn't fast because of fast operations; it's fast because it uses *few* operations.

Riverlane Bolsters Quantum Error Correction Team With Key Industry Hires
Riverlane is bolstering its quantum error correction (QEC) capabilities with the appointments of Abe Asfaw and Guen Prawiroatmodjo, both formerly of major technology companies, to lead initiatives focused on expanding QEC expertise and delivering open-source software—including a Q3 2025 SDK—aimed at accelerating the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers and addressing the rapidly growing demand for skilled QEC practitioners within the field.

Quite sad that only 10% have so far done tests with the technology. (Probably most readers could even name them.) We think it should be around 100% at this point.

It's been over a hundred years since we first realized that quantum mechanics is a thing, but we still don't actually understand what it *means* about the nature of our universe.
(Though we can predict the output of experiments fine.)
