American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Democrats’ unwillingness to fight hurts their image among voters and not just the base, as the party’s brand is increasingly a group of feckless cowards who stand for nothing.

Democrats think compromise and capitulation is politically smart but it’s poison.

So if a CR zeroes out aid to Israel, Fetterman would vote yes? Dare to dream…
My YES vote is *not* an endorsement of this deeply flawed CR.

My YES vote is 💯 about refusing to shut our government down.

I refuse to punish working families and plunge millions of Americans into chaos.

I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever vote to shut our government down.

One answer is the refusal of Biden admin to use US leverage to cement a ceasefire deal.

2024 year-end murder rates in Philadelphia will show a 30% drop, according to District Attorney Larry Krasner.

He credits social service and jobs programs for reducing crime and helping to build trust in the justice system and deter vigilante actions.
Philly homicides are at a near-record low in 2024, Krasner says
The district attorney said that crime has been on a downward trajectory for the past three years.

Over the next four years there'll be a fair amount of (justified) moralizing about the rule of law.

Worth recognizing that the Biden admin's disregard for US & int'l law in providing military support to Israel has itself been corrosive to the rule of law & norms of executive branch lawyering.
In its final days, the Biden administration is pushing an $8 billion arms deal to Israel, right as:
–Human Rights Watch & Amnesty say Israel is committing genocide
–IDF kills several journalists; babies freeze to death
–IDF attacks last hospitals in northern Gaza, detains hospital director
