Flavoparmelia caperata is a common #lichen found across most of Britain. It has been given the name Greenshield Lichen by some, and is usually found on deciduous tree trunks.
Amazingly @sylviad.bsky.social has found another lichen nestling inside!

The apothecia of Flavoparmelia caperata releasing its spores, but if you look closely there are tiny lichens of another species that have 'germinated' in the apothecia and begun to grow. First time I've ever seen this #lichen

Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) #bird also called Ruddy Turnstone are small shorebirds with a short bill. They breed in the Arctic, appearing on British coasts as winter visitors.
Their name is easy to remember, watch them flipping small stones over seeking crustaceans and insects!

Watching Labour MPs take a wrecking ball to nature makes me so angry & so sad. Their action tonight voting down amendments to the #PlanningBill intended to protect wildlife & habitats from destruction is so reckless & so counterproductive. People didn’t vote Labour for this 👇
