Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #posted - a bird on a post. And what brighter ray of sunshine could there be than a Rose-coloured Starling basking on a Shetland fencepost?

Amazed by negative reactions seen on social media from some dog owners w regard to new Govt ruling on livestock worrying, despite fact that almost 87% of sheep farmers experienced a dog attack on their flock in 2025. Yet still this: "why should I put my dog on a lead?" 🙄

Did u know?Rewilding part, or all of your outside space will have a positive impact on beleaguered wildlife, but where to start? I get asked lots of questions - How easy is it?Do I need training? Will my outside space become an uncontrollable wilderness? These are 4 fab books I use. 🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱 #rewildling

Did u know? The more I garden for wildlife, the more"at odds"I am with *traditional* gardening methods. This pic comes from a natural gardening catalogue. I celebrate the presence of every Chafer beetle in my garden - I certainly don't set traps to kill them & I would never kill my moss, either. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍

Both, as I wrote at time, were ‘abject failures of journalism’

South Africa’s mineral and petroleum resources minister - a science denier - continues to champion coal. This despite the fact that we are set to pass 2°C in the 2030’s, which will have catastrophic consequences for SA.

These people are a threat to all life on earth
‘King coal is back’, says Mantashe – The Mail & Guardian
The minister framed coal, not as a relic of the past, but as a critical driver of energy security, industrial activity and employment

Humans, it seems, have always needed laws and fines to keep them in line ..
And, if people were found to be selling shoddy goods, polluting water, causing floods, not meeting their responsibilities to maintain bridges, weirs, walls or roads, there was the Affeerer, who decided how much to fine then.
