Fifty new houses going up on a greenfield site near my tiny village, not a solar panel in sight. No infrastructure, almost no public transport. Pig ugly to boot. Why are we allowing this?

I haven't used peat for 20 years. It is perfectly possible to garden without it so why are we still using something so damaging to the environment.

If you garden, please don't buy peat products.

Apart from compost, try to find plants that have not been grown in peat.

Peat has no nutritional benefits for plants, it is solely used as a neutral growing medium with perfect drainage which can then be artificially modified to specification.
Another campaign to go peat free, it only takes a second, please sign (link in comment below). Such an easy step we could take to address both climate and biodiversity crises.

It seems to me that extreme inequality is at the root of all our societal instability. It creates poverty and puts vast power in the hands of an unelected greedy few.
Just 0.001% of humanity hold three times the wealth of poorest half, report finds - that's fewer than 60,000 people vs 4bn

- World #Inequality Report says such extreme divides are no longer sustainable for societies or ecosystems

This is worrying. Recently moved into a new build development. Scuffed up a patch of grass to sow a mini meadow- only to find plastic netting embedded in the newly laid turf. Apparently rife in new builds as easier to lay & cheaper to produce.
