Good at rock climbing and playing the piano, fairly atrocious at everything else. Major soft spot for pine martens. He/him.
The badgers have been digging for buried treasure outside my front door.

#SmallBeautiesHour remembering without a reminder! Wild garlic sprouting and picked some for an omlette for dinner, elf cups and spring flowers, blue skies after so much rain, chat with a neighbour and a nice sit down with a cuppa after a busy day.

Inspired by franzanth.bsky.social guide to responsible bug-yeeting I thought I’d create one for sharks and rays, for those times when you might find one pootling about by the coast or splashing around in your bathtub.

There are a *lot* of sharks and rays so feel free to add your favourites.
Someone was surprised to learn that I yeet bugs out instead of *gently relocating* them.

I appreciate the gesture. But in the tropics, seeing bugs where they shouldn't be is an hourly—not weekly thing. You learn what can survive a yeet to save time.

In this thread I'm rating animal yeetability.

Here’s a modern sea urchin spine in thin section which shows gorgeous stereom microstructure - this biomineralised & complex porous arrangement contributes to the high strength & excellent damage tolerance of echinoderm skeletons 🖤 (viewed in xpl, fov: 1.5mm)

I have long wanted to see a crab spider, and have never had any luck. But… Last June I saw this in an Oxeye daisy patch growing beside the drive. I wasn’t sure because a) it’s upside down, and b) it was very windy and the flower kept waving about.
So what I want to know is: is it a crab spider? 🤞🙏

There’s something so exciting about ordering new plants, especially if they’re not for yourself. It’s like spreading actual, tangible joy.

It’s a bit embarrassing 😳, but this sorry object is a much-loved but also much-neglected fern that lived in the bathroom. I’m going to see if I can rescue it. Wish me luck! 🤞

One of my climbing friends sent me the link for this delightful little piece of silliness, and I noticed that the little blue bod gets a cape. I used to competitively fence and I never got a cape! 😤
