It also warned that a ban may “inadvertently enhance” Palestine Action’s profile, and people could "oppose proscription as representing a creep of terrorism powers into the realm of free expression and protest”

But the document did not predict any demonstrations other than outside future trials

The British government predicted that the public would be "largely unconcerned" about a decision to ban Palestine Action as a terrorist group

An official community impact assessment failed to predict the protests that have so far seen over 2,000 people arrested

Hi conflict scholars and/or political scientists. A question: what previously robust finding or conventional wisdom has been overturned using causal inference approaches? e.g., some finding was robust in various papers with vanilla regression, but diff-in-diffs say "no".

Thanks!

In 1966, a young man started the Political Science PhD program at the University of Wisconsin. He did ok, publishing an article in the American Political Science Review.

However, he dropped out of the PhD program to take a job in Washington.

About 30 years later, he was elected Vice President.

I checked the reference list on this now-retracted article, and almost NONE of the referenced articles actually exist! Total AI slop!

Who were the peer reviewers? Did an editor look at the article?

It was published online 30 April, and the retraction didn't happen until 3 November. Yikes.

I think the literature on intergroup contact is a good example. Initial meta-analyses of correlational work and small sample lab studies offer a very optimistic outlook, but recent large-scale RCTs draw a more complex picture....

Police have announced that a 32-year-old man who was arrested is now being treated as the only suspect for the train stabbing and the 35-year-old has been released with no further action

They say he was "reported in good faith" by witnesses but enquiries confirmed that he was not involved
British Transport Police say that "at this stage there is nothing to suggest this is a terrorist incident" and they are still working to establish the full circumstances and motivation for the train attack

Of 11 injured people, 4 have been discharged and 2 remain in a life-threatening condition
The investigation into the train stabbing in Cambridgeshire is being supported by Counter Terrorism Policing

The step is routine for violent incidents where the motivation is unclear, and police say they are working to understand the full circumstances of the attack
