pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It must be a huge hassle to sort through, um, millions of packages from abroad, but they're already pretty good at that, and the "disbursement fee" has me wondering if the tariffs are actually making FedEx money in the long run?
Correction! Tariff hassle caught up with me. Paying more to FedEx for processing than I'm paying to the gov't. That makes sense, I'm sure. :/

For a brief period of time, we had enough juice to defy the NPR politics team and not publish misleading maps like this one. Was a good run, but hard fought. Every time I see a post like this, I think of those arrogant dopes and how poorly they treated us.
Eventually, they’ll figure out population density. 🤡

I did a non-trivial amount of work on the use of facial recognition in Login.gov while in leadership at GSA, and at Treasury. The short version: it's racist. (And that was for 1-to-1 matching, which is much simpler than 1-to-many.) The error rate on this must be horrifying.

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

I know that there are people outside Chicago who are paying attention and seeing these videos but there are no words for how it feels when the videos show everyday places in your neighborhood, places that are part of your routine. The sense of violation is profound.
