ICYMI DC are doing a series of...sigh..."punk rock" themed variant covers, inspired by that Superman film a few months ago. As @richjohnston.bsky.social pointed out on Bleeding Cool, DC are just plonking for the tired old cliches (spiked hair, safety pins, et al).

I haven't been to a Supanova con since 2018, and after this I strongly doubt I'll ever venture there again. The overwhelming response on their Facebook page has been "read the fucking room", a sentiment I wholeheartedly endorse.
Pretty wild coming back from NYCC where everyone asks what the convention scene in Australia is like and seeing my "don't even bother" sentiments reinforced in such an incredibly reaffirming way...

RIP Jane Goodall

My favorite anecdote was when The Far Side ran this cartoon. The Jane Goodall Institute was NOT amused, and threatened litigation, until it found out that Jane Goodall herself had seen the cartoon and thought it was hilarious.

I was 17 when Cobain passed, and it hit hard, but Bowie had me in tears; I had just got off work when the news broke and I had to sit down in my local shopping centre to process it.
Which rock deaths messed you up? My parents didn’t tell me when Lennon died because I was a toddler. I found out in 1st grade and I cried a ton.
Rozz Williams death was really awful because of how he died and lonely because I was away at an activist training & no one else had a clue who he was.

Good lord, how embarrassing. As if Katy Perry last year wasn't bad enough.
Seriously, thirty years ago Snoop was seen as dangerous, *the* hardcore gangsta, now he's spruiking the footy? Especially after endorsing the POtuS? FOH.

Despite myself, I saw the new Fantastic Four movie earlier, and without spoiling...I don't think I've ever seen a film where the deus ex machina was responsible for firing Chekhov's proverbial gun.
Not a critique (I liked FF: FS on the whole), just an observation.

I wish nothing but peace for a man who rarely seemed at peace.
He was instrumental in my career and I thank him for that.
Though he was certainly complicated, I strongly believe Marvel, the direct market, and possibly the industry itself, might not exist today without what Jim Shooter did as EiC.
Jim Shooter, a comic book writer, editor and publisher known for his stint as EIC of Marvel Comics, has died at age 73.

The trial is taking place in Morwell, the next town over; the media focus has been such that people are queueing to enter the courthouse & view proceedings.
If you've been to Morwell as frequently as I have, you'd understand why I find this grimly amusing.

Peter David is the first writer I remember reading everything they did. When I was a kid his writing helped create my love of comics, but also my inspiration for wanting to write comics. Spider-man 2099, X-Factor, Aquaman, Young Justice. The list goes on. I wish I spoke to him more. RIP.
