Lobbyist / ex Tory MP Ben Howlett has been done by an undercover sting. As ever, the most revealing thing is how very very cheap it is buy access in British media/politics — and especially how Howlett controls one of the biggest UK pol Twitter accounts!

Across regulated industries there has been a step change in the past 16 months. Solar farms left as proposals for years were signed off in weeks. We haven’t completed a new reservoir in 30 years despite the population growing by 10m. This government’s signed off 9

How many other chancellors have had to put up with crap like this?

LEST WE FORGET👇

George Osborne. Failure

Kwasi Kwarteng. ‘Ruin the Economy with my mate Liz Truss’

Rishi Sunak ‘ Eat Out to help out to help out spread Covid’

Govt comms have been abysmal, but strip away noise and vitriolic attacks, the budget is seems reasonable. Increased headroom means interest on govt debt reduced, lots of children lifted out of poverty, small upward shift in living standards, some wealth redistribution. Growth measures in progress.

Exactly. I watched her speech and there were no details in it. It was followed by the highly paid commentators extrapolating the most lurid details about taxes, cuts, and anything else their imaginations could come up with.

This story is starting to make me feel I’m going slightly mad - maybe RR overdid the gloom, but the tax rises are paying for a) the welfare U-turns b) the £10bn-plus increase in headroom c) scrapping the two child limit d) bits of other spending eg higher local gov costs 🤷🏻‍♀️

A grassroots movement is calling on all Americans to abstain from shopping at Target, Amazon, and Home Depot during the holiday weekend over their support for Trump's authoritarian policies.

I encourage you to join — and shop small. https://weaintbuyingit.com/

The absolute state of the BBC news just now - which seems determined to drag the government down over the budget.

Where was all this attention to minute detail and concern for absolute accuracy when the Tories were lying their way through their chaotic reign for 14 years? It's frankly absurd.

I find it interesting that every single TV political journalist opened with an editorialising comment, while all the newspaper ones just asked questions. I suspect, because the latter know the question won't be in the write-up, while the former are trying to craft a clip that is all about them. ~AA

No longer a serious country.
The RW press/MSM isn't bothered with actual "news" now. Just a serious of endless "gotchas" designed to bring about a GE asap.
They were badly bruised after the Tory thrashing last year. However, KS's "deal" with Murdoch has been a disaster. No honeymoon period, but ..

I wonder how deceived the working poor feel? The real story is that we have half a million children getting lifted out of poverty. The rest is what I call The Joe Dolce effect. If you bang on about something long enough some rubbish like Shut Uppa your Face can knock John Lennon off the No1 spot.

Honestly the completely weird Budget coverage is mostly a sign of how pretty much any attack can stick when you’re unpopular enough.

Of course Rachel Reeves didn’t brief the full Cabinet on Budget details weeks in advance! No chancellor ever does! It would immediately leak!

Evidently, Britain’s journalistic hacks see no need to scrutinise ‘Dirty Farage' his insistence that he is not a racist, his associations with Nathan Gill, or the murky circumstances surrounding the purchase of his Frinton property.

The Chancellor took decisive action in the Budget to ease cost of living pressures.

This has been funded in part by an extension of a so-called ‘stealth tax rise’, initiated by the previous Government, and a patchwork of smaller but broadly sensible tax rises.

When they're all copying and pasting each other's narrative, it tends to wash over people with a general "well, this must be the story if they are all telling it exactly the same" vibe.

Actually, on this occasion their story is BATTY and has more to do with the X echo chamber in which they live.

Great to hear Chris Mason rolling out the BBC’s new ground rules for its journalists this morning - lots of forensic analysis, timelines, judgement calls and even reporting on what people DON’T say - all these are coming our way apparently.
👏👏👏

Reform UK Party Ltd spent £700,000 on a 2-page spread — one page being just an image of Farage and the other a letter, meaning he spent £350,000 on pictures of himself.

The average UK house price is £272,000.

Also, the ‘full English’ is badly photoshopped on — it's tiny!
