Wasn't she another "free speech absolutist"? Not that I'm surprised that for these "absolutists" free speech is only speech they like, or generates more revenue for them
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

Once again: LLMs are word-association algorithms. They are incapable of grokking that the words they parse correspond to actual objects & phenomena outside of their own algorithms. To an LLM, its statements depend not on facts but on how often words occur together in the material the're trained on.
Grok spread dangerous misinformation during the tsunami last night.

It confidently and persistently argued that there were no tsunami warnings in effect for various areas when such warnings were in effect.

Many were using Grok for updates since the ability to locate reliable data on X is degraded.

I predict that this will temporarily mollify AG Bondi, but eventually the cultural right will find itself unsatisfied with simply stripping Lia Thomas of her awards and demand that she be further humiliated in some fashion. And having given the moose its muffin today, UPenn will have to capitulate.
BREAKING

The University of Pennsylvania has come to an agreement with the Trump administration on what the Department of Education said was its Title IX violations.

This will include stripping trans athlete Lia Thomas of her records, titles, and recognitions.

I really hope the EU will not fold on this, because I bet that Trump will ramp up the pressure to bully them into compliance.
NEW: The European Union's rules on content moderation, digital competition and artificial intelligence are not up for negotiation with the U.S., the European Commission's tech chief Henna Virkkunen told POLITICO in an interview.

When I lived in the USA (before Trump's 2nd term) I was surprised at how terrible food safety was: frequent lettuce recalls because of E. Coli, poor/inexistent traceability, chemically rinsed chicken, salmonella in eggs... Nobody likes tariffs, but health/safety is not negotiable
Donald Trump may be happy with the EU’s promise to speed up trade talks, but don’t expect a big, beautiful deal when the dust settles.

The EU still has bruises from the failed TTIP talks a decade ago, and it won’t want to go there with America again.

A big, beautiful EU trade deal with Trump? Dream on!
European politicians have no appetite to give the White House big concessions and revisit the inflammatory topics that dominated the TTIP talks a decade ago.

Esercitate il vostro diritto di voto! Andiamo tuttǝ a votare l'8 e 9 Giugno.

Every single time I see a proposed bill intended to "make kids safe" I wonder what's the poison inside it.In many cases they just use kids' safety to trigger an emotional response and avoid people noticing what the bill real intent is.
KOSA is being reintroduced today.

It's always been a dangerous censorship bill.

But in this environment, with Trump weaponizing every aspect of the Federal government to suppress speech he doesn't like, KOSA is a catastrophic attack on human rights.

We have to stop it.

Stop KOSA
KOSA is a censorship bill that won’t make kids safe. Instead, it'll put all internet users at risk, especially youth. If you believe in a free and open internet, tell your lawmakers to reject #KOSA!

“All shall love boobs, and despair!”
OMG, apparently we're doing "replace one word from Lord of the Rings with 'boobs' and make it awesome" today. And it's glorious.

Of course, @gailsimone.bsky.social has already won but, I guess I'll add: "What can men do against such reckless boobs?"
"FLY, you boobs!"

Leavitt: Tariffs are a tax hike on foreign countries and a tax cut for the American people

Reporter: Have you ever paid a tariff? I have. They don’t get charged on foreign countries

Leavitt: I think it’s insulting that you are trying test my knowledge on economics

This would pretty much kill astrophysics, planetary and Earth science in the USA, and reverberate internationally since many of the affected missions are international partnerships. Can anyone in the current administration or among their supporters explain how this would "Make America Great Again"?
This would be the end of my career along with the end of many hundreds of other scientists. Vought is a menace to the country.

I went to the movie thither to watch Nosferatu this weekend. Another very good gothic horror from Eggers, with stellar performances from all the cast (especially Depp, Dafoe and Hoult). Highly recommended (unless you have rat phobia, in that case avoid it at all costs).
