It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

The "western tradition" of Christianity, too, plays an outsized role in the spread of cosmopolitan values and, fwiw, liberal attitudes toward refugees and immigrants.
Also, a note about cosmopolitanism. Stephen Miller hates it. But it's worth noting that it is one of the inheritances from "western civilization" that he loves to cite as under threat from immigrants. And it's far more admirable than his ethnonationalism is.

Extremely important paper predicting $240-$481 B annual GDP loss due to international student restrictions under proposed immigration policy, affecting the STEM workforce. Notably, this doesn't include other effects on STEM from research/training grant terminations, proposed indirect caps, etc.
The economic effects of international students go far beyond their tuition dollars.

Many stay, innovate, & shape the productivity of the entire economy.

My co-authors & I estimate the impact of US international student exclusion policy in this new paper commissioned by the @nationalacademies.org.

Major corporations funding a president's vanity project is a textbook model for pay-to-play. Why else would tech giants, crypto firms, and defense contractors care about a 90,000 sq ft ballroom?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the last several months, and Graff nails the thought: “It turns out, in the end, that there’s only one check and balance that actually matters: Good character. Everything else in a constitutional system follows and relies on that simple foundation.”
The destruction of the East Wing is a reminder that America has violated the only check-and-balance that actually ends up mattering: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-only-c...
