Thank you, soil bacterium.

OK -- this is a long shot -- but does *anyone* have a copy of either of these two books about Lin Carter? (in the thread) They are hellishly difficult to find; I can't even find them from used sellers or on auction sites at any price!

There is a strange metaphysical mood that exists when you hear abt a book, love the description, samples, order it, read it, & find yrself crushingly bored with it. It feels like a cosmic prank. It's even worse when you've had the book for years, eyeball it on the shelf, & finally give it a go.

You GOTTA stop being so desperately afraid of the audience. Look at me. Look in my eyeballs. Stop being so desperate for approval. Stop writing for the whiny babies in your audience and start writing for the freaks who like cool fucked up shit

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I'm going thru the copyedited version of THE SHIP OF DEATH (*out Sept. 2026 from Avon A/HarperCollins*), and my god. These people are doing yeoman service. Wow. I've never had my sentences handed back to me with such sharp insight.

Praise to copyeditors!

I do think there is a honed skill to this. And I'm the first to admit, I don't have it, likely couldn't abide by it, and don't have someone to teach it to me. This is not whining, either. I've just always held pro-markets up as a goal for me one day. But now, w/ those same places looking sketch...?
I usually never say never. But I think I have to resign from writing short fiction and trying to sell it. I either have no idea how to do it, don’t know the markets ever, or have the worst luck.
