Plants are all tucked in under the snow. It's so very cold out. I want to check on how all my lettuces and roots are doing under their covers, but I don't want to expose them to the cold.

No one told me gardening would be so much about patience.

objective quality is fake and most people are really just judging how much they enjoyed something instead of how well it accomplished the thing it was setting out to do, because answering that question requires being curious about what it was trying to do
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

This thread is an infinitely better explanation of Kobo's AI policy than the (really not very helpful) post the other day. The specificity is absolutely necessary.
Lots of questions about Kobo, #kobowritinglife and how, when and why we are using AI. Putting "AI" in the same sentence as "authors", "books" or "publishers" makes a lot of alarm bells go off, and for good reason. 1/

Ooh, great question! The St. Pete cast are my only current our-world characters, so:

Ian is definitely going to the parades. Getting invited onto floats. Making so many new friends and partying till dawn.

Rose would love to go, but that many people having that many emotions is too overwhelming.
Authors! What are your characters doing for Pride? Are they doing the parade thing, are they having a private party? Let me know!

Just finished reading @izzyxen.bsky.social’s queer cyberpunk novella.

This is the kind of trans (and transhuman) story that’s been sorely missing from cyberpunk for so long.

Just like its narrator, it’s bold, brave, messy, and brilliant. More like this please!

Pulling long strings of the edges off dot matrix printer paper.
what’s your favorite instance of haptic nostalgia—the poignant memory of the physicality of an obsolete thing—like dialing a rotary phone, shifting gears in a manual transmission, opening a soda can with a pull ring?

Advent jam day 5: purple fig cinnamon. Very mellow. The cinnamon was just a hint. A perfect companion to some chai.

Door 4 of advent jam is orange-yuzu-grapefruit. Super excited about this one!

No one slams the mystery genre because the mystery’s solved by the end every time. It’s the execution. It’s HOW the solution happens.

Same with romance. It’s the journey. It’s the how not the what that makes us care. Being 80 pages from the end and wondering “how will the author pull this off??”

The definition of a good relationship is ever evolving and changing. And romance authors need to change with it.

I honestly feel that Romance does not exist in a vaccum and as writers & the provider of romantic fantasies that we should be playing more attention to the conversations that society as a whole is having about love and relationships right now. Especially when it comes to emotional care and labor.

Help me out, bluesky? I'm looking for recommendations for your favorite science fiction about climate disasters and/or people's responses to them.

Any length from short story to novel is great. I'd particularly love recommendations from marginalized authors.

So I'm back to work today, after the disruption of the last couple weeks. Working my way through Twisted book 4, the final draft before I send it for copyediting. I come across this speech, which I wrote months ago, but I feel like it was a note written directly to myself for this moment.
