Why are we always giving attention to NIMBYs? It’s a 1600ft house with one (1) window that overlooks a backyard. We’re never stopping the housing crisis as long as politicians listen to these people

The point “pigs would eat you and so they deserve to be eaten” loses its punch when you think about applying the same logic to any other animal. Cats and dogs will eat their dead owners if left alone for too long. Does that mean my cat deserves to be eaten? I don’t think so
i have met a number of pigs, including pigs i later went on to eat (we have small farmers in our family) and quite frankly, getting to know pigs has made me feel even less bad about eating them

they would 100% eat us if given the chance

I don't like doing this. It feels fucked up to constantly point out the negative dimensions of someone who just died in a horrific, worrying way. But I would like the media to tell basic truths about this person and his impact on public life rather than resorting to euphemism and outright lies!

andrew cuomo is emblematic of everything people despise about the democratic party and zohran is everything people want in politics, he represents hope for a better world

Beyond all of these points, I think that people are missing just how long a billion years is. Animals as we know them didn’t exist a billion years ago. Planning for a scenario that far in the future would be like trying to tell what Earth would be like back before the dinosaurs existed
Musk isn't a visionary. He's a dipshit with a lousy sense of risk. Yes, the Sun will steadily brighten and in a billion years or so make it too hot for us to live here, but we're already making it too hot for us to live here right now. And Musk is siding with the people bent on making that worse.
It's so incredible to still see the left accused of moral relativism when every conservative column is just 'yes all of our leaders are bad but the people calling them bad sometimes exaggerate.'

ngl I think the largest obstacle to overcome is party allegiance. Kitchener Centre has reinforced the fact that so many people just don’t care about what their MP is like as long as they have the right letter next to their name
CBC has called Kitchener Centre for the CPC. Devastating result, but taking some solace that the progressive vote is around 61% of the vote. Outside of Waterloo, the rest of Waterloo Region... what is wrong with you?

Glad that Poilievre is toast but that’s undercut by the feeling that the left is also toast #CanadaVotes

Surprised that Frank Baylis is coming off really well for a guy I had never heard of prior to this debate. Same thing for Karina Gould as well. E.g. on military spending, don’t know why neither Carney or Freeland brought up a lack of pay/benefits as an issue in recruitment

Seeing all the success of right wing populism both here in Ontario/Canada and across the border is making me realize how much we need a successful flavour of left wing populism to stay competitive

#chainsawman part 1 spoilers below

Rereading early chapters, you can really tell that Makima’s backstory was planned from the start. Like this dialogue when she’s talking to the yakuza guys in ch. 33, it’s so obvious in retrospect that she was referring to herself here.

Take note that when Meta a) was explicit they want to remain "apolitical" b) blocks news content in Canada c) often delays taking responsibility for their role in past antidemocratic activities, Bluesky staff are out here noting that basic integrity is important for apps and society. This matters.
wild timing for this to be happening 17 days before the u.s. election... it is so important to have a network where you can discuss politics in a Normal way, i.e. posts aren't downranked and the CEO doesn't tweak the platform to promote his pac and candidate of choice. truly the bare minimum!
