demonschool credits all 145 people who touched the game over the course of its multi-year dev cycle AND explains what exactly they contributed. the rest of the games industry, which commonly omits people from credits entirely, should be taking notes

Microsoft never should have been allowed to acquire Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard-King, it should have been blocked for the clear monopoly making move it was, and anyone with pattern recognition could've seen this coming, because voraciously acquisition always comes with mass layoffs.

In recent weeks, video game publishers Take-Two and EA both warned investors about potential "reputational" risks to the use of gen-AI in games. It's a problem that all game companies will soon need to confront: Players hate genAI.

people say making works with AI is “lazy” and that art is “hard work” but that misses the point to me, that pleasure to an artist is the fixation itself, and a finished work is waste product
This anonymous quote really shocked me—all the tasks listed here are like the absolute essence of what writing is. If you hired a person to choose words and draft scenes for you, you would have to pay them as a ghost writer. The fact that you reviewed it afterward does not mean you wrote it!

A quick and typed-on-my-phone-riddled-with-typos thread about why I think people need to support NPR/PBS, even though they did post that one interview you didn't like:

Nobody is expecting you to pay for EVERY website, that's not practical. But thinking of these sites as magazines is maybe a better way of framing it than "oh great now i gotta pay for websites", with the added bonus all the money goes to us and not a publisher.

Please support worker-owned media. Doesn't have to be us, just...someone. Anyone. We started aftermath because we felt it was the only way to make this work going forward, as did everyone else at all these sites, and the more people paying for our/their work, the bigger and better we'll get.
i wanted to collect links people are posting to good polygon-adjacent sites + ways to follow/support folks who've been laid off from there - almost certainly extremely incomplete but maybe it'll be helpful? haunts.neocities.org/polygon

Happy May 1st. The value of your labor belongs to you and the actions of the state are best understood as as a coordinated effort to distract you from this. The state fears an organized and unified proletariat like it fears death and rightly so. Power to the workers and power to the people

Just woke up to this news, need to be a little more awake to fully process it, but the people I worked with at Polygon are some of the most kind, insightful, and passionate people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Support them wherever they end up. Also, fuck whoever made this decision.

Effective immediately, the government says it will begin screening immigrant social media for activity that officials think indicates support for antisemitism.
