ʻUaʻu Kani chick!

Thanks USFWS volunteer and biologist Dan Rapp for a close up view of a younger ʻUaʻu Kani (Wedge-tailed Shearwater). See more in comments about how this chick got here!

African buffalo are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. They can way 900 kg and are apparently considered grumpy.
I’d be grumpy too if I had to carry a bunch of yelling red-billed oxpeckers around all the time!

Of the hour I waited for the rare LeConte’s sparrow of Jamaica bay, it spent roughly 58 minutes tunneling through tall, dense grass, out of sight despite being within 15 feet.

To all of my BlueSky friends,

I don't really pitch or sell things on this platform, but I want to share this fundraiser.

I've spent some time in the Wayuu community and the people there are lovely and warm. But the children are at a severe disadvantage.

Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll). Our cam once showed nearly empty landscape; now thousands of Mōlī (Laysan albatross) returnfor breeding season with black-footed albatross (ka’upu) in the mix.
Over 1 million more albatross will soon arrive at the world’s largest albatross colony.

Enjoy this little demon, #Bugsky

At first I thought this was just a small fly, but when I got my macro on it I found this alien creature. I think it's in the genus Poppea, a type of treehopper. Found at @casabentbill.bsky.social #CostaRica #nature #insects

The first time I saw an American Pipit, it was January on Northerly Island, I was freezing and the bird was halfway up a hillside. Cool to see so far out of season, but I was not wowed. :) This month, in the setting sunlight and much closer, beauty! And look at that hind toe! #birds
