As seen in our live cam, the albatrosses are returning home to Kuiahelani (Midway Atoll). We can’t wait to see them dance with prospective mates, so we’re rewatching this video from Nov 2024, recorded by USFWS biologist and volunteer Dan Rapp.

This 'A (masked booby) chick fledged last month from Eastern Island on Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll). These fearless seabirds dive deep to retrieve food and can fall prey to long line fishing hooks.

Cleaning seeps is one of the not-so-glamorous volunteer jobs. Yet the work is important.

Seeps are ponds on Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll) that are usually man-made to help prevent botulism and keep the endangered Koloa Pōhakas (Laysan ducks) safe.

Learn more about seeps, find a video link in comments

Diversity of native plants helps support #Birds & wildlife by restoring habitat through propagation/outplanting of native plants, a component of USFWS volunteer/ staff efforts on the atoll.

Mahalo to volunteers who do a great job every year getting their hands dirty. Want to help? See comments.
