Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

KILMEADE: Schumer says he's voting no. Did you do this outside leadership?

SHAHEEN: No. We kept leadership informed throughout.

Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

Even the senators who are retiring and think they won't have to face the wrath of furious Democratic voters should know that their last name is about to become so toxic that not even a goddamn nonprofit is going to want you on the board.
I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them

Not every justice has yet spoken, but Roberts and Barrett have and they are clearly against Trump's tariffs. That's five votes.

Katyal is merciless. He is embarrassing Alito’s fanciful hypos and Alito is getting mad. But Katyal is unfazed and instead going in for the kill. Wow. Well done.

The ADL has decided to treat fascists as allies and progressives as enemies. For a group that is tasked with protecting American Jews, that is a world historic fuck up.

I will never forgive these people for their moral decrepitude.

If I had to guess right now (and it is premature!) I'd say the Supreme Court is going to strike down Trump's tariffs.

All three liberals are clearly against the government. Barrett too. Roberts leaning that way. And we haven't even gotten to tax-hater Gorsuch yet.

Q: A lot of Rs, including the Lt Gov, ran on keeping the good times going. Given the Lt Gov lost by 15, Rs are on track to lose more than a dozen House seats, is it possible Virginians don't see your admin the same way you do?

YOUNGKIN: I believe Virginians thoroughly support what we've been doing

Soft prediction, feel free to own me if wrong: by 2029 there’s a Dem in the wh. They will be elected in part on promise to hold the second trump admin accountable for many crimes. Shortly after getting in, median voter public sentiment will turn to “just move on, we’re done with that”

The GOP’s Utah redistricting power-play might be its most egregious yet. Not because the most seats are at stake — only one is at stake in Utah. But because of the lengths it goes to put raw political advantage ahead of respect for the will of voters. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/thi...

‼️ this was a striking moment, to me

Louisiana was basically like 'here come these Black people always asking for more' and Justice Jackson was like, 'that's not what the fuck they're asking for, they're saying: stop discriminating against us'
Louisiana: "The plaintiffs came in and said 'we want a second majority-minority district."
KBJ: "NO THEY DID NOT. They said our votes are being dilluted."
Louisiana: "That's the same thing."
KBJ: "No it's not. ... trust me on this."

now the Court is spinning a giant wheel of racist excuses to kill off the Voting Rights Act

idk which one it'll land on, but they all have the same intended result: forcing people of color out of the political process, leaving a government by and for white people

The Voting Rights Act has done more than perhaps any other statute to build a multiracial democracy

which is precisely why the Supreme Court’s conservative justices have spent decades casting the law as constitutionally unsound

my main takeaways from listening to the Supreme Court oral argument today are

-the writing is on the wall for the Voting Rights Act
-the Republican justices are now throwing racist spaghetti at that wall; they'll pass of whatever sticks as the opinion's rationale

The Supreme Court's Republican appointees sound ready to transform the 14th and 15th Amendments into a weapon against the very racial minorities they were meant to protect—handing Republicans 15-19 additional House seats in the process. A disaster for democracy.
