Dave Willat was just 11 years old when he showed up for what he thought would be a routine church choir practice in 1965. He and his fellow singers ended up making history. n.pr/3KZCl3a
We caught up with one of the kids who sang on 'A Charlie Brown Christmas.' He's 72 now

I'm fine, just crying at my desk ... this is a beautiful article.
I met Melissa Hortman in October of 2024. She was smart and kind. I heard about her murder in a LA hotel room and it dropped me to my knees. So I went to Minnesota and talked to her kids, parents, and friends. This is not true crime, this is Melissa in real life. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Will be interesting to see how these cases play out - I suspect we will see more and more cases of "free speech for me but not for thee". I hope the courts will stand up for free speech for all, even those they disagree with.
New post by Randy Evans: Will these Iowa districts accord their teachers and coaches full speech rights, the way the U.S. Supreme Court did for Coach Kennedy? Or will the districts claim some new exception applies for comments about Charlie Kirk?

“Come and get me.” I love my governor 👏🏼
just talked to Gov. Pritzker who dared President Trump to “come and get me” after POTUS threatened him with arrest. But Pritzker said he thinks Trump will chicken out.

Turns out we all got screwed. Even the farmers who voted for him. Imagine. Who could have predicted this - oh wait!
Wow so Iowa farmers are literally on their last leg at this point because the Soy beans that they used to sell to USAID isn’t happening since Trump decided to cut the program to feed starving children abroad and China said screw you we will get our Soybeans from Brazil! 😡

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

Wow, what a crazy coincidence. 😒 Who could have predicted this?
Published in the Kyiv Independent: Russia is building its own USAID—just days after we gutted ours. This is what betrayal looks like in #Ukraine. We walked off the field. Now Russia gets to turn on the Starlink. We didn’t just leave—we handed them the keys.

I feel like now is a good time to re-up shoe throwing guy, aka Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi:

Iowa's top research university, hamstrung by abysmal leadership at the state level.
Red-state public universities are just as worried about their blue-state peers about cuts to federal research funds. But they can't say anything publicly for political reasons. www.chronicle.com/article/faci...

At the Urbana No Kings - hard to capture the size but it’s huge. Probably 2-3x the size of the one in March.

Again: they are killing people. Stealing away cures that were in the pipeline. Taking away clinical trials. Stopping scientific progress. Throwing away millions of dollars already invested.
If you were wondering why Trump’s war on Harvard matters, here is The Times of London detailing the costs: cancelling a planned TB vaccine, ending a clinical trial for severely allergic children, killing a new generation of air purifiers, curtailing research on ALS.
