All opinions are my own. Supporter of voting reform, climate action, safe streets, housing and the urban forest. Programmer by day.
I’d also like to ask “accessible for whom”? I can walk, but my gait is wobbly so having extra curbs all over the sidewalk means I’m much more likely to trip.
Yes, the city needs to actually repave streets. Yes, the city needs to repair sidewalks. Yes, the city needs to install curb ramps.

But the bigger problem is that when LA decides to do anything at all to "help" pedestrians, the result looks like this complete and utter bullshit

(It's well known that curb extensions increase pedestrian visibility and decrease crossing distance, but they also make ramp design much simpler)

Yes and retrofit the whole city to infiltrate storm water to offset the water usage for the data center
Thesis: You want to build a data center? Okay, but you need to build public housing or a mixed-use complex next to our on top of it. The heat generated by the data center is ripped to the homes in winter, and in the summer, the homes get to use your cooling system to offset their electric bill.

Yes! Stop wasting our tax dollars and start building transit and housing!
Much like transit projects, the state provides billions of dollars for investments everyone agrees that we need…and then we let local busybodies and special interests fuck with the details. It slows delivery and vastly increases the costs! “Local control” is the opposite of Good Government.
State funded projects should be entitled and permitted by the state. This situation is absurd.

Call it Schrödinger's affordable housing project — both dead and alive at the same time.

Now after nearly a decade of dispute the fate of a 120-unit, low-income apartment building along the iconic canals in Venice Beach may affect all development in LA

I’m curious about where these statistics are. During Covid we had a huge reduction in traffic and the pedestrian deaths actually went up. Drivers could go faster because there weren’t as many other cars on the road and speed kills.
Statistics say if we can reduce traffic by 50 percent, we should have a 50% reduction in pedestrian collisions.

Reality speaks higher - without all the vehicles on the road, visibility should improve immensely. I’d hazard to guess it’d be more like a 90% reduction

A sign placed sideways in a car travel lane would be inexcusable. Our database shows they’re common place for bike lanes.

How bike lanes are maintained by a city sets a tone for how they feel about bicyclists.

Since 2010, pedestrian deaths in the US 🇺🇸 have increased by 80%. During that same time, pedestrian deaths in the EU 🇪🇺 have dropped by 37%, but that stat could be about to change.

When they claim car culture is "rugged American individualism" and you remind them that free roads, subsidized gas, and mandated parking is actually just socialism for cars.

"...Instead of the public conversation centering on traffic safety for drivers and neighbors, everyone seems to be talking about bike lanes...a phenomenon that I call the “bike lane fig leaf,” where culture war rants about bike lanes cover up more meaningful discussions about vehicle safety. "
Bike lane rants just obscure serious traffic safety concerns - MinnPost
It’s easier to joke about spandex-wearing bike lane users than to have needed conversations about speeding, safety or infrastructure costs.

Don’t stop rubbing their noses in the teachings of Christ.
Talarico: if you read the new testament, Jesus doesn't spend most of his time preaching or teaching or even praying. He spends most of his time healing the sick.

Right now, we have politicians in congress with Christ follower in their Twitter bio, but they are kicking the sick off their health care

Want to open a bowling alley in Baldwin Park, CA? Too bad.

With a parking mandate of 3 parking spaces per 100 square feet of building area you'll need roughly 30 parking spaces per lane.
