One of my proudest achievements at my last job was picking up distribution for the Academy’s gorgeous restoration of the thought-to-be-lost Holly Woodlawn vehicle SCARECROW IN A GARDEN OF CUCUMBERS — it’s out today on blu-ray

No, say it louder. It's absolute bullshit how Across the Spider-Verse made over $300 million in profit, yet neither Marvel nor Sony could be bothered to defray the hospital bills of the man who co-created Miguel O'Hara. Instead they left his wife and family scrambling to afford to live.
feels kind of obscene to say this now, but Peter David probably could've spent a few more years with his loved ones had he received just a little help from an industry he earned millions of dollars for

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen something so simultaneously absurd and disturbing: the House will vote
Monday on a bill that would punish Americans for participating in boycotts of Israel with fines of up to $1 MILLION or prison terms up to TWENTY YEARS.

Either everyone has due process or no one has any rights.
JD Vance claims the Maryland father the Trump administration mistakenly deported to a slave prison in El Salvador wasn't "father of the year" bc he had "traffic violations," and says "we do not ask permission from far left Democrats before we deport illegal immigrants."

Some big / scary / exciting news… I’m launching my own film distribution company. It’s called @muscledistribution.bsky.social and will be handling a wide range of titles with a heavy repertory focus.

The announcement is over at Indiewire:

Mahmoud Khalil has become a political prisoner for protesting a US-backed genocide. His detention heralds new vistas of repression made possible by institutions and technological developments begun by the War on Terror.

I saw a post saying that ICE is pausing its tip line, so I decided to call myself to verify.

The recorded voicemail said they are not currently accepting immigration status tips.

Good job, friends.

This will also be a consequence of allowing AI to continue in the way it is, not just in writing. It won't replace top tier art careers completely any time soon, but the jobs where you learn the ropes and make the connections? They're already going. Inequalities grow.
Pathways to advancement have dried up. I know a Black TV writer who has worked on three or four series and never been on set, which means he can't yet hope to run a room.

Without pathways to advancement and norming six-week gigs, marginalized writers will STAY marginalized. Same faces at the top.
not me, who's only been in one writer's room, having to explain why yesterday's Variety article decrying minimum staffing demands was B.S. to someone much more experienced in the industry as a director.

The WGA polled showrunners about minimum staffing. That's why it's such a key strike issue.

Stumbled upon this VERY EXCITING NEWS of a proper release for the legendary, somewhat lost recordings of Sylvester doing standards with jazz pianist and preservationist (and Cockette!) Peter Mintun in 1970. Worth buying for the packaging alone, and to hear that voice applied to these songs, gold.
Sylvester – Private Recordings, August 1970
