Is there a gentle and non-preachy way to tell a friend that using AI to design a poster in the style of Keith Haring is a bad idea? I sense people don't make the connection that these tools are based on stolen work, but saying hey this is uncool makes me feel like I'm being superior and finger-waggy

U.S.-born American citizen under ICE hold in Florida after driving from Georgia

Juan Carlos Gomez-Lopez is being held even though a county judge found his birth certificate “authentic” and said there wasn’t reason to consider him an “illegal alien.”

Trump loves tariffs because he feels like it’s a way to shake people down. Even better, shake FOREIGNERS down.

He thinks protectionism is more akin to a protection racket.

He clearly gets an almost sexual thrill from announcing them, and the more, and the higher, the better.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Our leaders seem paralysed, unable to talk about the US in the same language they use for traditionally inimical countries, hoping that the bully’s eye passes them over.

Before you can act on a crisis you have to recognise you are in one - it is time for our leaders, and our media, to wake up. 7/9

For @nygroove.nyc I wrote about why we still love physical media jukeboxes in NYC bars (down with TouchTunes!) along with a map of all the ones I could find. nygroove.nyc/nyc-physical...
Why these bars are sticking with old-school offline jukeboxes
Plus, we made you a map of the analog jukeboxes you can still find across the city

It's really disheartening that the tech media gets the urgency of the current moment and is reporting it like it is and our political media and big media institutions are just pretending like nothing is happening.

In 2015 I stole my dad's atlas and put it in the trunk of my car. He found it there this year and said, "I have one just like this," and I said, feeling guilty, "I think this is actually yours," and he said no, his is in his office. He is wrong, my atlas is his atlas.

Christmas movie idea: City girl has to go to a small Vermont town for some reason, meets a hot fireman AND a hot farmer who melt her hardened heart and can't decide between them. Then the fireman and farmer fall for each other and she goes back to her regular fine life. Title: The Christmas Choice

A stunning work of art, rich with insight about human behavior and psychology. Single paragraphs hold more depth than some contemporary novels. I feel physically shaken by how good this is and also comforted by the knowledge that humans have it in them to portray life so vividly and accurately.
