Will it be the renewable basis for the modern world OR the machine that puts glue on pizza and drives people to insanity and self harm?

Hmmmmmmm
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?

ICE going from a rather niche federal agency to being better-funded than most countries’ militaries gives the Executive Branch a huge, ready-made and highly centralized secret police force, and it’s hard to imagine it won’t be massively employed against citizen targets of the government eventually.

Historically, prisons take on lives of their own once built—political & economic pressures to keep them full supersede their original purposes. We’re seeing an unprecedented increase in the capacity of the US government to lock us up, when already the US already incarcerates about 2 million people.
