National Guard aren’t ICE or Border Patrol. They didn’t sign up looking to harass and repress people. They’re volunteers, part time, in case of emergency. They didn’t ask for this.

West Virginia National Guard shouldn’t have been deployed in Washington DC.

Victims of the shooter and the president.

Remember, don’t dump grease down your pipes or this guy will visit your house and talk to you about Congressional Cemetery.

My 5 yo niece: “Guess what I drew?

Me: “ummmm…”

Niece: “It’s a turkey leg!”

Me: “Ahh, yes. Of course! Haha.”

Having been a band geek myself, I have a real soft spot for the high school marching bands in the parade. These kids (and the band instructors) work so hard to get there, and it’s such a big deal for them to appear in the parade. I’d watch an entire parade of just random school marching bands.

Ah yes, that classic, jaunty Thanksgiving holiday tune, “Turn Down For What”.

Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

I am sure the reactions to the shooting will be wholly reasonable and thoughtful, and will not confirm anyone’s priors.

Lay's Greektown Gyro Chips (2015-2015): A finalist in the "Do Us a Flavor" contest, these kettle-style potato chips were meant to taste like a gyro, with notes of lamb & beef, a Greek herb and spice blend, and tangy tzatziki sauce

Quite the pre-Thanksgiving news: Mayor Muriel Bowser will not seek a fourth term in office. That's a huge opening a mayoral race that still doesn't have any major candidates in it, but with possible entries from Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George and At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie.

Keep more of my money?
Cut out insurance companies?

Didn’t have the president pegged as a single-payer guy, but I guess after that Mamdani meeting anything is possible.
Bessent on CNBC re: White House health care plans: "I'm not involved in the conversation. I know President Trump wants working Americans to keep more of their money, cut out the insurance companies, and we'll see. He's the president of solutions, and I'm sure that we will have a solution to this."

Made this for dinner tonight, and it is money. Only enhancement was adding some white wine to the sauce.

One of the foundational problems with AI is that something that is a helpful tool in certain circumstances (like quickly summarizing a lot of info) has been marketed as actual intelligence that people can outsource things like emotional therapy to. Clippy should be no one’s therapist.
Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

It’s exhausting reading descriptions of RFK’s actions as “reshaping public health,” or taking an “unorthodox approach.” He’s just killing people. Whether out of cruelty, deliberate ignorance, or some deeper psychological problems, he’s killing people.
Just an absolutely gutting essay by Tatiana Schlossberg, a writer, mother of two young children, and cousin of RFK Jr who is dying of leukemia.

I think one of the reasons people react so negatively to AI is that it so often comes off as just creepy.

NEW: The Court has ruled that the National Guard deployment to DC is illegal and granted a preliminary injunction.

As we made clear from the beginning: the US military should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

This is a victory for DC, Home Rule, and American democracy.

The House action yesterday is an affront to democracy, undermines the voice and vote of 700,000 U.S. citizens and legal residents, and threatens public safety in the District with counterproductive measures.

My message to Congress: Hands Off D.C.
