Okinawa had its hottest September at 1.6C above the average. I filmed this mass coral bleaching last year, but didn't have the heart to share. Total annihilation of the first few meters of depth. This stuff happens before our eyes, and yet people who think it isn't real keep gaining power.

I still LOVE the whole notion of North America being mostly under a shallow sea throughout the Mesozoic, especially in the Cretaceous! #fossilfriday starfish, ammonoids and whatnot all along Texas, Colorado and thereabouts!
I live in the western interior seaway, I find a lot of neat fossilized shells, occasionally crinoids, and ammonites

One of the most spectacular trees in the southern US is persimmon, Diospyros virginiana. It has alligator-hide layered bark, delicious fruit, and hard, dark wood related to ebony. Have a look at Our Trees. (We'll have a story about persimmon sex in a few days.)
